Proof of Purchase 2012

I would post a picture of what I submitted, but then it wouldn't be any fun! See below for info about this yearly fundraiser for my Alma Mater, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

The twist? You don't know the identity of the artist until you make the purchase. With all the art priced ($50) and sized (4x6 inches) the same, the piece you fall in love with might be by a current student or by a famous artist.

An interactive experiment in Pittsburgh

Summer Sky Eternal is an interactive project in downtown Pittsburgh --604 Liberty Ave--utilizing rear projector technology and motion sensitive beams for viewers to wave their hands to unscramble several artists' paintings until the full picture shows up.  Though it is constantly being tweaked, one of my paintings is in the queue to be unscrambled--"Peacocks at Midnight" is the name of the painting and you can find it on my blog.  My friend Mike Honeck, a future Disney Imagineer, spearheaded the project along with a few other graduates from Carnegie Mellon’s Entertainment Technology Center working with the Downtown Pittsburgh Partnership to create an awesome interactive art installation for PopUp Pittsburgh.  Stop by to check it out!
Look at all this snow!! It was sixty degrees the next day, no lie.

I was out in Pittsburgh for work and got to do quite a lot of sightseeing, along with finally getting to check out the Summer Sky Eternal display- Warhol Museum, Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center, Jerry's Records in Squirrel Hill, nightlife in Shadyside, and shopping in the Strip District.  I can't say enough good things about the city and the people, and the energy as a whole.

Back home in the studio, I have finally gotten things unpacked, and of course I could not have done it without my wonderful Fiancé and his eternal patience and expertise with getting 100 lb shelving units to stick to a wall in a room that's about as symmetrical as a fun house.  Being up in this room with strange angles and cool textures is leading me to yet another experiement with a texture, this time recreating "brick".  So far so good and my color theory classes from Luanne Stovall, as always, is coming quite in handy.

Finally! My Philly-Themed piece is in a New York City Show

Show & Tell: A unique evening of visual and performing arts

Time
Saturday, October 1 · 7:00pm - 11:00pm

Studio 580

The LOVE piece will be in the show.  Scroll through the posts if you haven't seen it, or come out to the show! All the food and drink will be pink--should be interesting!  Also--I finished the Bird of Paradise painting on the wall a few weeks ago.  (Except for one little baby stem!) It looks good.  I've gotten a lot of compliments for beautifying the block, and it feels good. I can't wait to see it in the snow. Even the naked bike riders like it!

May- First Friday

I have spent the past two months working on a new body of art experimenting with glitter, varnish, and feathers. I also screwed around with a clear silicone gel to have elements in the painting appear to "float". I showed my work at the open studios in my building (which is a natural success, I don't even have to do any promoting! Yay less work!) the verdict is that people gravitated towards this black painting, which you will see here. I believe I will do a series based on this painting. Next, I would like to do a bunch of large scale floral paintings, and then towards the end of the year I think I will start doing nude female portraits on abstract backgrounds. I guess I will see how it goes once I get my work hung in some local shops in Northern Liberties, but that's my gut instinct at this point.  Also, the LOVE painting is finished after a year of working on it.  I ended up peeling/ ripping the entire bottom half of the painting off the canvas and starting over, but I fixed it in two hours what I had been working on for four months so it worked out just fine.

Loving my new space at Liberty Vintage Motorcycles! We are planning on doing a big party for Trenton Ave Arts Fest/"Judgement Day" on May 21st.
